Well, it looks a helluva lot better than the office tower they’re planning to put there or any office tower for that matter.

I think it’s actually one of the nicer old buildings. I’ve drank in dive bars much much more delapitated than the Cleo and didn’t have a problem.

This is despite the fact that Cleo’s owner was denied the permission to renovate several times on account of it being a historic building and now they want to demolish it altogether.

Those trying to save the Cleo want to renovate it as well, they’re for development in the Quartier des Spectacles, they just want to be included in the plans.

If you ask me, they have way more right to be included than an office tower or some aristocrat developer who feels that the business elite should have more of a say than the citizens of Montreal on a part of our history.

Sorry to say it, but IMHO Cafe Cleopatra is a shithole. While it is true that the venue houses both drag queens and strippers, it’s such a dump that the two are literally interchageable. Seriously.

I find it Hillarious when Yaccarini says of Café Cloepatra : “.. which has “managed to position itself as an icon of the Main.”

As if the 30 years and more of entertainers and genuine admiration attending the location had nothing to do with it.

It’s not something you can buy. And if he thinks so i have a feeling i know what will become the icon once again regardless of it’s location.

If his intentions were as community oriented as his claims he’d be embracing this Icon.
