Dragon UNnaturally Speaking

Hello all, and welcome to a very important software review!   You’ve probably heard of this program: Dragon Naturally Speaking.   What it is, for those who don’t know, is a program where if you talk into a microphone, your words will come out as text.   It sounds amazing, doesn’t it?

Let me tell you a little story.   I have a friend, let’s call him Tom.   Tom decided it would be a good idea to download Dragon Naturally Speaking by way of a torrent.   So, he downloads it and the program works great. His words actually turn into text in Microsoft word.

Then, my friend’s father tells my friend to uninstall the program right away and that “they’re watching us”, referring to Nuance, the makers of Dragon.   Lone behold, my friend uninstalls Dragon even though it was working amazingly.   Being as adventurous as I am, I decided to actually buy Dragon and write a review of it.

…What the fuck?

Okay, first of all, when my friend let me try out his downloaded version, I was impressed.   Everything I said, for the most part, became text.   After three hours trying it out, I was golden and could use some of the product’s voice commands such as “question mark” “enter” and things of that nature to add symbols to my text.   I even updated my Facebook status using it.

Then with this product, which I purchased, there seemed to be a new error every few seconds.   How, in God’s name, could the word “went” be misinterpreted as “apple”?   How?!   I guess even computers can be mentally retarded.

I felt if I tried using it anymore than I already did, I would become just like her.   Who, might I add, is wearing an Aqua Teen Hunger Force T-shirt… but that’s a review for another day.

So, I began to wonder: how can something my buddy downloaded be better than an actual purchased version?   Believe it or not, I have no idea, but it will cause me to reach my verdict.

6.5/10

Why?   I figure there are people who will be able to use the purchased version of Dragon Version 9.51.   However, my version, that being 10, seems to have a few errors, at least on my laptop.   My advice: try out version 9.51 rather than the newest version.   Not only will you save money, but you may even get something that works.

And when something works, chances are it will enjoyable.   Just a bit of advice for anyone who designs things.
