Game 4: How do you Beat a Jerkface in the Habs/Caps Series?

This is how Montreal is taking this series: up the ass!

I really hate Alexander Ovechkin. Not just in the series, but overall.

As he’s exciting on the ice, his taunting and ego trips are getting to the Canadiens and myself. The hot-dogging will one day get him knocked cold from behind but in the meantime, no one has been able to solve it since game one.

On the other hand, the Canadiens haven’t figured out Semyon Varlamov. This guy only comes out when there’s a playoff series when it matters and is unstoppable.

By the way, a word of advice: avoid top corners. Have you seen his mean glove work? Whoh.

Game 4: I shifted to the Ye Olde Orchard downtown for more chicken wings and beer with a mixed posse from the first 3 games. The place was packed for a couple hours until half the bar trekked to the Bell Centre. Someone was nice enough to leave behind a game 3 ticket stub. I always wondered what a playoff ticket looked like.

Closest I’ve ever get to a playoff game, sigh.

Carey Price in nets, another chance to prove that he is worth keeping. Both him and Halak are due for new contacts in the off-season, all season long fighting to be the #1 goalie. Price has it in him, he has to have a good game.

He does until Ovechkin slaps one in. Grrr.

It has to be the toughest thing on earth, to be 22 and under all this pressure. Then again I know most 22 years right now don’t have a sweet life like Price, with the money and the access to heavy drinking and parties.

Ok, maybe not the money part.

Goalies have a weird time line to develop into true form in the NHL, they tend to peak when they hit 24-25 years. But when you’re playing for the Montreal Canadiens, you have to be ready to be the Hall of Fame hero the minute they put the sweater on their shoulders on draft day. We all like to like Price, however time is running out on him and in the series.

Once again they had a great start, they were outshooting and outplaying in the first two periods. We had the lead, the bar was roaring until the last 7 seconds left…total silence. Defence did it again, another costly mistake after another (Spacek was out due to illness) however where was the rest of the core.

Was it because Price was in nets? Who knows, your key core to the defence is the guy in front of the net, there was a “so called” riff between Markov and Price’s lack of work effort. Is that still a factor and really, in the middle of the playoffs.

I’m still pissed off about the move coach Jacques Martin made on pulling the goaler in the last two minutes for the 6th man. I’ve never seen this executed well. Washington ended up with two empty netters.

So now down 3-1, Montreal can call it a night in Washington. They have been here before, there are whispers of 2004, same situation but they won all 3 games to get the series. Problem is, that was against Boston, this is motherf**king Washington.

Augh, how the hell do we beat a jerkface?

Never in the history of the world has anyone ever beaten a jerkface, they just get under your skin like a bad rash. I don’t think I’ve ever beaten a jerkface, a douche bag yes but never a jerkface. It’s a breed where they seek so much attention, like a bratty child, a 13-million/yr child.

Ovechkin had been stopped before on game one when he had no shots. He pouted then got his way and is showboating as always. But the good news is that Montreal was able to stop him, find someone else other than Spacek to be on his ass at all times and we’re good. The series is still Washington to lose.

Washington has a reputation for blowing 3-1 leads plus their home record hasn’t been stellar. Montreal hasn’t made this easy for them at all. Their big problem is they can’t keep the lead at all. We’ve been all over them. It’s all in the matter of finishing what we stated. Put Halak back in nets and yes, regroup the defence. If someone like Cammelleri, Gionta, Gomez can step it up then there will be a chance.

One up Ovie’s words, he’s just a talker but remember: there will be games where the team will need him and he doesn’t show. See game 7 VS Pittsburgh and Russia VS Canada.

The one thing a jerkface isn’t is a team player. If he’s not the hero then he won’t do anything. Deflate the ego because players like Nicklas Backstom and Mike Knuble have more points and there’s more talk about Mike Green and Semyon Varlamov. Literally Ovechkin has done jack shit in this series so why even encourage the jerkiness.

Going back to Canada/Russia, Canada was down also from losing to the US badly. They knew if they didn’t win or play their hearts out then they would be the greatest embarrassment in the history of this country. The Canadiens are on the ropes, they weren’t given a chance at all in this series (I was being nice giving Washington 6 games to kick our ass). A part of me wants this to go six. I really want to see a game six.

Ottawa last night got a sixth game beating the defending Stanley Cup champs. If Montreal can take the extra step, there will be a game 6. They need to hang on to a lead, they can beat the jerkface.

So I’m heading to Toronto as we speak for a conference. This means game 5 for me is on the road. How the Hell am I going to pull this off? This requires text messaging and a bar nearby to bolt to. Stay tuned, hoping that the next entry will not be the last.
